Yes We Can!
Behind the Headlines of US Grid Challenges - Progress on the Energize Agenda
Tuesday, Sept 24th @ Roadmap Conference
Thank you for joining us!
YES WE CAN! Will bring together the key actors at the federal and state levels to share activities, challenges and policy initiatives that are aimed at achieving the environmental, health and financial benefits of transportation electrification. We will look behind the “headlines” to highlight the work that is taking place in States and explore the collaboration needed between policymakers at all levels of government, fleet owners, organized labor, OEMs, energy providers, truck stop operators, electric utilities, and financiers. We will also look ahead to states and regions for further engagement and momentum and how the National EV Charging Initiative can support federal strategies and help strategically support infrastructure development to meet state and federal climate rules and regulations. This is a must attend event!

The Biden-Harris Administration announced the first-ever national goal to transition to a zero-emissions freight sector for truck, rail, aviation and marine, along with a commitment to develop a national zero-emissions freight strategy. This speaker will discuss the “whole-of-government strategy” which includes billions in federal investments announced; forthcoming action plans on each of the freight segments- and what is needed from this group of stakeholders to contribute to the framework and action plan to meet the Administration’s goals on zero-emissions freight infrastructure
1:00 - 1:10 PM
Keynote Address by Kristin White | Acting Administrator, Federal Highway Administration

Achieving the environmental, health and financial benefits of freight electrification requires a new paradigm to guide when, where, what and how to deploy both public and private resources. It will also require more collaboration between policymakers at all levels of government, fleet owners, organized labor, OEMs, energy providers, truck stop operators, electric utilities, and financiers. We can no longer think about Freight and Energy Policy in silos. In this conversation the National EV Charging Initiative will bring together leading voices from the commercial transportation industry, labor movement and utility regulation to exchange views on how and where to effectively engage to move the agenda forward.

Efforts to pass legislation including utility policies, programs, and tariffs to support and enable transportation electrification are underway (or may have achieved passage by the time of the conference) in several states. This event is an opportunity to highlight the work in these states, celebrate successes, and discuss challenges that can inform future work in these states and others.
As the Energize campaign works to bring the NEVCI principles/model policies to other states, this gathering is an ideal venue to bring together the diverse coalition that has supported the effort and provide an engaging update on the progress made this year.

As part of a collaboration with the Joint Office, this session will bring together the key actors in State Utility Policy that are actively engaged in proceedings, research, and policy activities to address the timely energization needed to effectively support freight and fleet electrification. The roundtable discussion will provide insight into the opportunities and challenges from practitioners with a front row seat at State Utility Commissions, Companies, and Utilities actively engaged in this important work. A common framework is needed so that these parties can understand the full range of challenges, benefits, and craft a holistic and standardized approach to meet our decarbonization goals for the medium, heavy duty transportation sector.
2:30 - 3:30 PM

This is also an opportunity to look ahead to states and regions where the Energize campaign is looking to engage and build momentum. This conversation should also focus on how the National EV Charging Initiative can support federal strategies, including the Zero Emission Freight Infrastructure Strategy, and help strategically support infrastructure development to meet state and federal climate rules and regulations. We would like to rally NEVCI members and supporters for future engagement.
