Roland Hwang | Former Program Director, Heising-Simons Foundation
Roland Hwang is the former director of the Climate and Clean Energy program at the Heising-Simons Foundation. He is an expert on clean energy technologies and policies, with a particular focus on transportation electrification. Roland has served on numerous advisory panels and committees, including two National Academy of Sciences Committees (Fuel Economy and Barriers to Electric Vehicle Deployment), the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change that won the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize, the U.S. EPA Mobile Source Technical Review Subcommittee, the California Plug-in Electric Vehicle Collaborative, and the 50×50 Transportation Initiative Commission. Roland currently serves on the U.C. Davis Institute of Transportation Board of Advisors, the Pacific Gas & Electric Sustainability Advisory Board.
Previous to the Heising-Simons Foundation, Roland worked for 21 years for the the Natural Resources Defense Council where he directed their Climate & Clean Energy Program. He also worked for seven years at the Union of Concerned Scientists directing their Transportation program.
Roland holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California at Davis, and a master’s degree in Public Policy from the University of California at Berkeley.
