Launched in 2016, the Charge Up Midwest Coalition is made up of leading advocates across the region who have been working to advance transportation electrification policies at the state, local and regional level.  Charge Up Midwest coalition partners have led the charge to expand the availability and buildout of convenient, reliable, seamless and equitable EV charging infrastructure across the region, working with state regulators and other business and utility stakeholders to:

  • secure more than $100m. in utility-driven investments in EV charging infrastructure and smart rate design

  • commit to use the $94 m. in dedicated Volkswagen settlement funds for charging infrastructure

  • create broad multi-stakeholder support for EV charging through collaborative research and policy reports by the Mid-Continent Transportation Electrification Collaborative (MTEC)

  • pass local EV Ready ordinances in cities across the region (e.g. Chicago, Ann Arbor)

  • establish the Regional Electric Vehicle Midwest Coalition (or REV Midwest) MOU, signed by 5 Midwest Governors

ChargeUp Midwest partners commit to continue advocating for the expansion of EV charging infrastructure and to using the National EV Charging Initiative (NEVCI) guiding principles.  We will do this by working with other NEVCI stakeholders and engaging with regulatory agencies, legislatures in our respective states, as well as the new REV Midwest initiative. Specifically, we will seek to maximize the effectiveness of new federal infrastructure funding as it becomes available in the coming months and years, and will also seek to increase funding through utility programs, state initiatives and private sector partnerships.
